Overview

With the release of Sol de Uco wines, The Hinojosa de Battaglia and Garcia families bring the same passion that has defined our vineyards to our new enterprise of winemaking. Our wines are made exclusively from the best grapes from the oldest vines on our 200+-acre vineyard.

Vineyards

Our vineyards are located in Vista Flores, Tunuyán, in the Uco Valley region of Mendoza. 80 kilometers from the city of Mendoza and framed by the imposing snow-capped Andes mountain range, Uco Valley is one of the world’s highest-altitude winegrowing regions. Situated at over 3,300 feet above sea level, Sol de Uco makes the most of the region’s natural ability to produce high-quality grapes.

Winery

Although our winery is relatively young, our family has over three-quarters of a century’s experience managing the vineyards and growing grapes for top Argentine wines. Our ownership of the vineyards dates to the 1930s, shortly after they were planted in 1914. The high altitude, dry climate, significant temperature amplitude, and alluvial soil enable hands-on organic vineyard management practices.

Winemaking

Winemaker Federico Laborde and vineyard manager Elvira Hinojosa de Battaglia are committed to producing premium terroir-driven boutique wine through low yield vineyard management, hands on to cultivation, and state-of-the-art wine making.

About the name/brand

The direct translation is Uco Sun. The Uco Valley area gets more than 300 days of sunshine per year and the name of the wine pays tribute to the sunshine as well as celebrating the Uco Valley and the collective impact the climate and terroir make on the wine. The die-cut labels represent the Andes Mountains which frame the vineyards and give the Mendoza region a unique and unforgettable visual aspect.
